Wineglass Bay hides away in the Freycinet National Park on Tasmania’s East Coast and is accessed via one of Australia’s greatest road trips, the Great Eastern Drive.
Freycinet National Park is one of Tasmania’s very first National Parks (1916) and is home to dramatic pink granite mountains, secluded bays, crystal clear waters, white sandy beaches and abundant native animals.
Our Wineglass Bay tour departs from Hobart, heading east then following the Great Eastern Drive north. We’ll travel through the seaside towns of Orford, Triabunna and Swansea as we make our way along the East Coast of Tasmania towards the Freycinet National Park. We’ll stop briefly along the way to take in some of the local highlights such as Raspins Beach (Orford), Spiky Bridge and The Bark Mill (Swansea).
Lunch will be had at Coles Bay, or at the Freycinet Marine Farm, the choice is yours! We recommend enjoying the huge selection of amazing fresh seafood available at the Freycinet Marine Farm. If seafood isn’t your thing, the Freycinet Bakery Cafe or Take Away Shop have plenty to offer, or you can visit the Iluka Tavern or grab something simple from the Supermarket. Whatever you treat yourself with, be sure to also grab some drinking water because after lunch we go for our walk.
The walk to Wineglass Bay Lookout is one of the Great Short Walks of Tasmania and usually takes us around 45mins to get to the top. The 1.4 km walk is uphill on a rocky but well constructed path with stone steps. As a group, we walk to the Wineglass Bay Lookout where we help each other out to ensure we get the magic shots of Tasmania’s most famous photographed views. We enjoy the excitement and emotions of the moment and take in the rewarding and world famous view.
From the Lookout you will be given the option to return to the start of the walk with your guide, or for the keen walkers you can choose to spend the rest of your time completing the walk down to Wineglass beach (2hr return). There you can enjoy a well deserved break with the famous white Wineglass Bay Beach sand between your toes, take a short stroll on the beach, take a swim in the stunning clear ocean, explore the rocky shoreline, the choice is yours!
If you choose to travel back with your guide, you will explore more of the Freycinet National Park through a series of short scenic walks. You’ll visit Honeymoon Bay or Sleepy Bay and Cape Tourville Lookout.
After about 4-5 hours of fun and exploration in the Freycinet National Park we all reunite and jump aboard the bus again to make our way back to Hobart. The drive home is usually spent sharing our experiences and tales with each other and celebrating our amazing day out. We’ll get you back at your accommodation around 6:30-7:00pm.
